In Freedom’s Glow

In Freedom’s Glow is a zine exploring the inner worlds of burlesque performers. It holds early material from the initial research I did into burlesque, when I was writing the documentary Waves of Burlesque.

As an artist and filmmaker I was captivated by the striking visual beauty, but even more fascinated by the internal process of which every burlesque performer spoke. It’s a process of confronting ingrained taboos around our physical appearance and how we relate to our bodies and sensuality. Waves of Burlesque went deep into how this taboo takes shape in our society and how performers are trying to change these unwritten rules. And with this zine I want to share a more intimate and transformative side of burlesque. It gives insight into the personal perspectives of performers as the ways they relate to their sensual alter egos.

This hand-stitched art zine explores the impact of burlesque on and off stage, through interviews, photos, film stills and visual art.
